Sant Antoni de Portmany
On the picture perfect west coast of Ibiza you will find Sant Antoni de Portmany, also known as San Antonio. This former fishing town is one of the island's most popular seaside resorts. Not surprising, since the area is known for its white beaches, clear blue sea and breathtaking sunsets. In terms of population, Sant Antoni de Portmany is Ibiza's second city.

An anchient harbor town
Sant Antoni de Portmany has a large marina. This port has existed for many centuries. Thanks to its large bay, this city used to be a safe place for ships to moor. The Romans called this harbor Portus Magnus (literally 'great harbor'). The name Portmany is also derived from Portus Magnus.

Behind the modern boulevard and many hotels you will find the old town of Sant Antoni. The center of this old center is the Església de Sant Antoni. Up to the 18th century, elements have been added to this church from 1305. For example, the great tower was not built until the 17th century, as a shelter for residents from attacks by pirates and corsairs.

The egg of Columbus
When you drive into Sant Antoni, the first thing you notice is the Egg of Columbus. This artwork is an ode to Christopher Columbus, who according to the inhabitants of Ibiza was born in Sant Antoni. The egg plays an important role in the stories surrounding Columbus's travel financing. The Egg of Columbus is located on the largest roundabout in the city, next to the tourist information office. Not all residents of the city find the artwork equally beautiful ... visit it and judge for yourself!

Passeig de ses Fonts
Characteristic of Sant Antoni is its attractive pedestrian boulevard Passeig de Ses Fonts (also called Paseo Maritimo by the Ibicencos). This promenade is located between the hotels and the harbor. So you have a nice view of the water and the many yachts and fishing boats. Enjoy a walk along the Sant Antoni bay and stop for a drink or a snack in one of the adjacent restaurants. There are also often free concerts, a market and activities along the boulevard in summer.
