In the north of Ibiza you will find the authentic Sant Carles de Peralta (San Carlos). Famous for being a mecca for hippies, San Carlos rose to fame in the 1960s, attracting peace lovers from around the world to the beautiful natural ambience of this Ibizan retreat. The original bohemians were attracted to the timelessness of San Carlos’s rural location. This village is more than 2500 years old and typically Ibicenco with traditional houses. Time seems to have stood still here. In the center, on the square, there is a white church with a well in the garden and some remains of an oil mill from the 18th century! A visit to San Carlos is a nice change between the busier parts of Ibiza. The area around the village is full of fig and almond trees, which is a beautiful sight when driving around.

Eat and drink

After wandering around in the characteristic village, shopping, feeding fish and / or eating an ice cream, you can have a nice snack and a drink.

Hotspots

Bar Anita

This Legendarisch charming bar can be found opposite the central church. Bar Anita, or Ca n'Anneta, was the social center of the region in the 1960s. The many artists and hippies who came there sometimes paid with works of art, which you can still see hanging in the bar. It also functioned as a post office. The 400 mailboxes that hang there are still in use! The original telephone booth, formerly the only telephone in the village, is also still present. Many locals still come here to meet each other and to have a drink. You enter through an outside terrace where you can eat or drink. In addition, the current residents of San Carlos still get their mail at the bar. The mail is still not delivered to people's homes.

There are many rumors about the name Anita one says that in the hippie days Anita Pallenberg regularly came there with The Rolling Stones, the other says that bar Anita was named after a nun who had resigned to work at the bar Anita. If we go there agian for a drink I will ask for the answer am very curious about the answer.

Lottie Bogotti

For a vintage lover’s dream.

Hannah and her daughter Lottie's beautiful shop is full of antiques, vintage, second-hand clothes, accessories, homeware and more! You can also find all kinds of handmade treasures, such as jewelry and dresses.

San-Carlos Ibiza Lottie-Bogotti boutique

A clothes and accessories shop that is far different from the norm, in fact is it a rebellious statement against the mass produced and trend concious, robotic fashion industry. Ibiza is the birthplace of the unique, Adlib clothing movement. A design that was created to encourage women to break free from the stuffy and conservative styles that modern society dictated they should wear. Adlib encouraged women to wear clothes that suited their individual style and personal circumstances. It encouraged its followers to be proud of their bodies and wear clothes to compliment their natural shape and flow.

San-Carlos Ibiza Lottie-Bogotti boutique

Lottie Bogotti has developed this concept even further, by emphasising that quality and individual craftsmanship of hand made clothing garments, is just as important. Her shop in San Carlos is full of vintage, second hand and antique, recycled clothing, that is full of character and individual personality. Clothing, that is environmentally friendly by its nature. No synthetic fibres or cheap Asian sweat shop produce, will be found in Lottie Bogotti, instead, expect to discover hand made, quality garments, that have been restored to their former glory. The Lottie Bogotti brand reflects what is good about Ibiza, simplicity, quality and a passion to restore, protect and give back to the Island. Its part of the Real Ibiza spirit and a beacon of light within the dark gloom.

EVEN MORE? HELL YES!

Hotspot; sights

On Saturdays you can take a look in and around an eighteenth-century house between 10:30 and 17:00: Trull de ca n'Andreu. The farmhouse in its original state from 1700 is now a museum and takes you back to the time of old Ibiza.

San-Carlos Ibiza Trull-de-ca-n'Andreu farmhouse

Going through the doors of es Trull de ca n'Andreu is like stepping into a time machine and going back in Pitiusan history to the 18th century. This peculiar museum created in a renovated farmhouse in Sant Carles is a pleasant experience that helps us become familiar with the life and daily tasks of the island's ancestors. The trull (oil mill) to make oil dates from 1775 and is one of the few that are preserved in the Pitiüses. All farm implements are kept in this private museum. There are various plows, flour mill wheels, machines to grind corn, material to make wine and different measures to make 'espardenyes'.

From Sant Carles de Peralta it is just a short drive to Torre d'en Valls (the pirate tower). From this tower you have a great view over the island of Tagomago.

The Ibiza beaches around San Carlos are divine. Imagine a world of crystal clear waters, sunshine bathed serenity and stunningly dramatic coastlines.

A few kilometers south of sant carlos, lays cala llenya, a real beach high point. Behind the pine forest, areas of sand expand, with plenty of berths. The bay is
sheltered and the water is harmless.

A dead end road leads further soutn to the large bay of Cala Nova.

To the north of Cala Llenya it gets more unspoilt and uninhibited on the coast, where Cala Mastella is a pictures bay. The coastal landacape is very frayed wedged between the rocks, the Cala Boix is a small bay with dark zand, after which a staircase descended.

Further north, the Platja d'es Figueral is a popular family beach. You can wander to the Platja S'aigua Blanca, a nudist beach bordered by cliffs, only on the way to it is steep;its best to walk down.
